Summer is coming to an end; the nights are drawing in and getting a little cooler. I'm hoping the autumn will be a little drier than the summer has been. Although all the rain has been good for growth in the woods with the new trees putting on good height, and a few are starting to burst the protective tubing they were planted in.
The house martin's nesting in the horse shelter are still there but I am sure they are already thinking of leaving. Have not seen many pheasants this year not sure whether its been a bad year for breeding - must remember to ask the local gamekeeper about that. Its certainly been a good year for the midge - I don't remember them as bothersome in the past as this year. Have had to dig out my midge net on some evenings if I have been doing anything that disturbed the vegetation. A highlight for us all has been Harry the Hedgehog who has come to visit us most evenings over the summer.
We have welcomed a number of campers to the wood over the summer - though more canceled than actually came. Over the summer I have spent time digging a small new pond that connects to the existing pond. The time just seems to have flown by, and as usual I haven't got half the things I'd planned to do done. Have made a resolution not to start any more new jobs until have finished all the jobs I've already stared but not quite finshed.
